About Ruth Dronsfield

I am an artist and art teacher based in the UK The focus of my artwork is painting and drawing in a variety of media. I explore imagery derived from everyday life experiences and the physical processes of using art materials. Recent work has been about expressions of my Christian faith, places, spaces and walks with my dog. I like to take ‘ordinary’ subjects and motifs and work them into something extraordinary and engaging. My use of stylisation and abstraction is influenced by a wide range of artists and designers. My work is very much a celebration of the wonder of the visual world. For me Art has become many things- a way of seeing the world, the making of something beautiful, interesting or decorative. It is also unashamedly expressive, sometimes whimsical and often surprising to me. I graduated from Central Saint Martins School of Art in 1990 with an Honours degree in Fine Art and went on to exhibit and sell work in exhibitions in London, Essex and Gloucestershire. I trained as an Art teacher and gained my PGCE at the University of London and taught in a secondary school for several years. When my three children were little I scaled down my art and teaching practise. In 2008 and I began painting again and started to exhibit in local Galleries and cafes and Loughton Art Trail. I have taught Art in a variety of settings, working with children and adults. I began my private teaching classes, Creative Art Classes in 2012, providing classes and workshops for children and adults. I currently provide classes for adults in Loughton, Essex
